Rel=Author Attribute in SERP
Previously Google Profiles and Plus connections In SERP or search results
[Updated 22/07/2011]
So today whilst searching for an updated wordpress bit.ly plugin for a start, I was suprised to Yoast’s picture and profile pop up in my SERP:
[Updated 22/07-2011] So after discussion with @alexasignio & @SEOlivewire, concencus seems to suggest that it is the rel=author attribute (example in Rich Snippet Tester) is responsible for the profile link, however this doesn’t change the personalisation effect that +1 had with the result actually being lifted by one result in the SERP. It is glaringly obvious in some respects, however, I would normally only +1 specific pages.
(Original Post Cont.)
Yoast – as the owner of the website in question, is identified in my immediate SERP with his Google Plus profile which I haven’t seen before.
My confusion lie with this – Mashable, who are the next result, are also in my Google Plus, yet aren’t flagged in the results. I believe that this is explained by the fact that I previously +1′d Yoast.com (root domain):
![]()
I hadn’t however +1′d mashable (which I then did)
I then refreshed results only to find that Pete Cashmore/Mashable didn’t show in my stream as I expected, despite +1′ing the root domain.
Just out of curiosity, I then +1′s the specific page in SERP for Yoast.com and found with a page refresh that the result jumped from 7th to 6th.
Any other comments and experiences are welcomed.

It is because Joost +1′s this. As he is in your circle you can see his recommendation. Pete although in your circle won’t have given this a +1. That is my understanding. I could very much be wrong.
On second thoughts, i think it could be this rel=author tag I’ve been hearing about but I haven’t looked that much into it.
